BRADFORD -- Bear Ridge Speedway held off a spirited fight from Mother Nature on Saturday to record seven feature winners.
Danny Douville of Concord, N.H., notched his first career win in the Sprint Cars of New England series, with Robby Bodwell second. Bodwell, of Sanford, Me., was involved in a harrowing wreck at Big Daddy’s Speedbowl in New Hampshire last week and rebounded with his best career finish. Rookie Chris Donnelly of Orford, N.H., was third.
Adam Pierson of Fairlee earned his first Sportsman Modified win of the season after a final-lap pass of Brian Whittemore. Whittemore, of Florence, held on for second with Travis Shinn of Groton, N.H., third. Josh Harrington of Topsham earned his first Sportsman Coupe win of the season with Gene Pierson and Melvin Pierson rounding out the podium finishers.
Jeremy Hodge of Newbury followed up his first career Limited Late Model win last Saturday with a second-straight victory. Will Hull and T.C. Forward were next in line. Josh Sunn of White River Junction remained undefeated in the Fast Four feature and Tom Placey took his first Hornet win of the year.

Some do it in their first try, for some it can take decades. Some do it once, some do it once a week, some never get the chance at all. But for everyone, it's all they want to do.

Siemons Takes "Madness" Win at Bear Ridge
BRADFORD -- Gary Siemons of Orford, N.H. earned his third Sportsman Modified win of the season at Bradford's Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday night, after compiling the lowest three-round point total in the "Modified Madness" event.Siemons won the first 23-lap segment, while Travis Shinn of Groton, N.H. and Bob Shepard of West Topsham copped the second and third rounds, respectively. In the overall finish, two-time defending Bear Ridge champion Siemons was the winner over Chris Donnelly of Piermont, N.H., Ryan Avery of Thornton, N.H., Shepard, and Wayne Stearns of Thetford Center.
Josh Harrington of Topsham posted his eighth Sportsman Coupe feature win of the season, defeating Bryan King of Topsham and Bradford rookie Billy Simmons. Dan Eastman of Thetford Center hit double digits with his 10th Limited Late Model win of the year, while Wilder's Andy Johnson took his fifth Fast Four win. Mark Harran of St. Johnsbury won his first Hornet feature of the season.
Matt Shuart of Walkill, N.Y. took his first SCoNE 360 Sprint Car victory, with Tunk Berry of Center Ossipee, N.H. second and Shawn Lawler of Mason, N.H. third. Berry also wrapped up the 2009 SCoNE championship with his finish. New Hampshire's Matt Robie won the Granite State Mini Sprint 600cc feature, and Lacey Hanson of Orwell won the 500cc race.

Donnelly Rides High Side to Win at Bear Ridge

BRADFORD -- Chris Donnelly said early in the season that he wasn't concerned with points at Bear Ridge Speedway, he just wanted to win races. He's doing a good job keeping himself happy.
"I've already missed two weeks and I may have to miss one more," said Donnelly. "So this is just for fun."
The Piermont, N.H. driver started seventh in the Swenson Insurance 25-lap Sportsman Modified main event on Saturday night and rode patiently in the inside lane up to third place. In one move on lap 10, though, Donnelly swung to the more grip-producing top lane and passed leaders Wayne Stearns and Mike Dunn. Despite three restarts that brought the field to his back bumper, Donnelly never looked back and cruised to his fourth win of the season at the Bradford dirt track.
"The top was real good," Donnelly said. "I was watching the earlier races and saw that they were running up there. I figured I'd save that for last when I really needed it. We got to the front on the bottom, and when I needed it, I moved to the outside."
Stearns, of Thetford Center, passed Dunn for second place on the outside following a lap 11 restart and ran about three car lengths behind Donnelly until Gary Siemons caught Stearns with six laps remaining in the race. A final caution period on lap 21 bunched the pack one more time, but Stearns was able to hold on for the runner-up finish. Siemons, of Orford, N.H., finished third with Ryan Avery and Dunn completing the top five.
Hometown rookie Jason Horniak continued his impressive freshman season in the Sportsman Coupe feature, taking his second win. Horniak led the race from the second lap until the checkered flag flew, but had his hands full of seven-time winner Josh Harrington of Topsham -- who owns Horniak's car -- during the final laps. Harrington dove underneath Horniak exiting Turn 2 on the final lap and held a half-carlength lead through the backstretch and Turns 3 and 4, but Horniak was able to power out of the final corner to win by a bumper.
"I got a little nervous on the last lap there when he pulled up on me," said Horniak. "I knew I had to give him a little room, I thought I did alright, I don't know. The car went good tonight. I've been struggling the last few weeks, no bite out there for me, I've talked to other drivers and their cars have all kinds of bite. We went through it this week really good with frame heights and stuff and we adjusted on that pretty good, and I think we've got it right where it needs to be."
"He did a good job," Harrington grinned in victory lane, "but I didn't run him as hard as I would have run anyone else." Billy Simmons finished third over Melvin Pierson and Bryan King.

Dan Eastman of Thetford Center dominated the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature for his ninth win in 13 races this season at Bear Ridge. Jeremy Hodge of Bradford finished second with Shane Race third, Will Hull fourth, and T.C. Forward fifth.
Steve Bell of St. Johnsbury recorded his first-ever Fast Four victory, leading every lap and holding off an early challenge from four-time winner Andy Johnson. Ryan Dutton finished third behind Johnson.
Tom Placey's streak of Hornet victories ended at six-straight as Mike Chapin of Williamstown notched his first career win. Chapin inherited the lead with two laps remaining when leader Mike Ryan's engine began to sputter. As Bobby Bell moved under Ryan on the final lap, Placey went to the outside and passed them both to finish second. Bell was third, Ryan held on for fourth. Mike Santaw of Lyme, N.H. was fifth.

BRADFORD -- Chris Donnelly said early in the season that he wasn't concerned with points at Bear Ridge Speedway, he just wanted to win races. He's doing a good job keeping himself happy."I've already missed two weeks and I may have to miss one more," said Donnelly. "So this is just for fun."
The Piermont, N.H. driver started seventh in the Swenson Insurance 25-lap Sportsman Modified main event on Saturday night and rode patiently in the inside lane up to third place. In one move on lap 10, though, Donnelly swung to the more grip-producing top lane and passed leaders Wayne Stearns and Mike Dunn. Despite three restarts that brought the field to his back bumper, Donnelly never looked back and cruised to his fourth win of the season at the Bradford dirt track.
"The top was real good," Donnelly said. "I was watching the earlier races and saw that they were running up there. I figured I'd save that for last when I really needed it. We got to the front on the bottom, and when I needed it, I moved to the outside."
Stearns, of Thetford Center, passed Dunn for second place on the outside following a lap 11 restart and ran about three car lengths behind Donnelly until Gary Siemons caught Stearns with six laps remaining in the race. A final caution period on lap 21 bunched the pack one more time, but Stearns was able to hold on for the runner-up finish. Siemons, of Orford, N.H., finished third with Ryan Avery and Dunn completing the top five.
Hometown rookie Jason Horniak continued his impressive freshman season in the Sportsman Coupe feature, taking his second win. Horniak led the race from the second lap until the checkered flag flew, but had his hands full of seven-time winner Josh Harrington of Topsham -- who owns Horniak's car -- during the final laps. Harrington dove underneath Horniak exiting Turn 2 on the final lap and held a half-carlength lead through the backstretch and Turns 3 and 4, but Horniak was able to power out of the final corner to win by a bumper.
"I got a little nervous on the last lap there when he pulled up on me," said Horniak. "I knew I had to give him a little room, I thought I did alright, I don't know. The car went good tonight. I've been struggling the last few weeks, no bite out there for me, I've talked to other drivers and their cars have all kinds of bite. We went through it this week really good with frame heights and stuff and we adjusted on that pretty good, and I think we've got it right where it needs to be."
"He did a good job," Harrington grinned in victory lane, "but I didn't run him as hard as I would have run anyone else." Billy Simmons finished third over Melvin Pierson and Bryan King.

Dan Eastman of Thetford Center dominated the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature for his ninth win in 13 races this season at Bear Ridge. Jeremy Hodge of Bradford finished second with Shane Race third, Will Hull fourth, and T.C. Forward fifth.
Steve Bell of St. Johnsbury recorded his first-ever Fast Four victory, leading every lap and holding off an early challenge from four-time winner Andy Johnson. Ryan Dutton finished third behind Johnson.
Tom Placey's streak of Hornet victories ended at six-straight as Mike Chapin of Williamstown notched his first career win. Chapin inherited the lead with two laps remaining when leader Mike Ryan's engine began to sputter. As Bobby Bell moved under Ryan on the final lap, Placey went to the outside and passed them both to finish second. Bell was third, Ryan held on for fourth. Mike Santaw of Lyme, N.H. was fifth.

Siemons Takes First Win of '09 at Bear Ridge

BRADFORD -- Gary Siemons earned his first feature win of the season at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford on Saturday night. The two-time defending Sportsman Modified track champion from Orford, N.H. shrugged off a tough first month of racing when he started on the pole and led the entire Wells River Savings Bank feature. Chris Donnelly of Piermont, N.H. continued his strong season by finishing second, with Wayne Stearns of Thetford Center third. Jeremy Huntoon of Bradford posted his best finish of the season in third place, and Jack Cook of Moultonboro, N.H. was fifth.
Josh Harrington of Topsham took his fifth Sportsman Coupe victory of the year with Corinth's Bryan King coming home a season-best second. Jason Horniak, Richie Simmons, and Mike McGinley completed the top-five in order.
Thetford Center's Dan Eastman raised his batting average to .857 in the Limited Late Models, winning his sixth race in seven starts on the year. Will Hull of East Montpelier was second, with Shane Race, T.C. Forward, and Jeremy Hodge rounding out the top-five.
Josh Sunn of White River Junction is still perfect at Bear Ridge, having won both of his starts in the Fast Four division this season. Steve Bell of St. Johnsbury took a season-best runner-up finish. Kevin Harran, Andy Johnson, and Mitch Durkee went 3-4-5.
Tom Placey of Bradford was back in Hornet victory lane for his third win of the year. Bobby Lee Bell, Steve Sheldon, Mike Ryan, and Carl Sweet trailed Placey across the finish line; Karl Sheldon was uninjured after flipping his car in the race.

Stearns Wins on Wild Night at Bear Ridge

BRADFORD -- Sportsman Modified driver Wayne Stearns of Thetford Center earned his second win of the season on a wild Saturday night that saw no less than three competitors get upside down. Stearns paced the field through several yellow- and red-flag periods, as drivers Mike Capra and Travis Shinn each found themselves flipping during the Bradford Mini Mart/Jiffy Mart feature, for the win; neither driver was injured. Chris Donnelly of Orford, N.H. was the runner-up, while East Corinth driver Gene Pierson, Jr. finished third in his first start of the year; Bob Shepard won last week's feature driving Pierson's car. Bryan King of Corinth finished fourth on Saturday with Blake Shepard of Newton, N.H. a season-best fifth.
Josh Harrington of Topsham posted his fourth win of the year in the Sportsman Coupe race, with brothers Billy and Richie Simmons of Bradford coming home second and third, respectively. Like Gene Pierson in the Modifieds, Richie Simmons finished on the podium in his first start of the season. King, who races in both the Modified and Coupe divisions, finished fourth for the second time of the night, with Topsham's Melvin Pierson fifth.
Danny Eastman of Thetford Center continued his domination of the Limited Late Model class, posting his fifth win in six feature events in 2009; in the race he didn't win on May 30, he finished second to Will Hull. Jeremy Hodge of Bradford finished second to Eastman on Saturday night for the third week in a row, with East Montpelier's Hull third.
Nathan Potter of Sharon earned his first win of the season in the regularly scheduled race for the Fast Four class, while Ryan Dutton of Bradford won the division's Bond Auto Parts Night make-up feature that was rained out one week ago.
Kyle Ashford of West Topsham earned his first win in the make-up race for the Hornet class, while St. Johnsbury's Bobby Lee Bell won the regularly scheduled three-segment, cumulatively scored "Hornet Madness" feature. Charlie Lakin of Groton walked away from a five-time rollover in the first segment of the Madness event to later post a pair of top-three finishes in the remaining segments aboard a back-up car. Brenda Atherton of Fairlee took her second win of the year in the Horent Queen race, which had also been rained out last week.
